Customer Success Story: ENFORCER® King Pin Lock Stops Attempted Trailer Theft in Altoona
During a routine stop in Altoona, a veteran driver for one of our long-time carrier partners experienced first-hand how the ENFORCER® King Pin Lock can shut down a theft attempt.
The driver had just dropped a trailer at a dock and was preparing to hook up a return trailer. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed something wasn’t right – the nose of his return trailer was sitting unusually far from the dock, and the roll-up door was halfway open.
Approaching for a closer look, he saw fresh drag marks leading away from the trailer and no security seal in sight. On inspection, he found the ENFORCER® King Pin Lock still in place – but covered in grease and with a jagged piece of metal lodged inside. The driver recognized the fragment as a “tooth” from a tractor’s fifth wheel – a clear sign that thieves had tried to hook up and pull the trailer away.
Despite the physical damage, the King Pin Lock remained functional. It had done its job, preventing the unauthorized hookup and keeping the trailer in place. The driver immediately contacted dispatch and the gatehouse to report the incident. A follow-up inspection of the dock area uncovered the discarded seal, but based on the return bill of lading, all product was accounted for and in good order.
